  • 1.  Edit default Targets / Filters

    Posted Jun 04, 2012 08:13 AM

    Hi,

First I will describe my Problem.

During the Installation of an Client, I must prevent the INstallation of any Win Updates.

First, I build an task, that moves the client into a special Filter.
I want add this Filter to the default Target, which is implemented in each update policy. But I couldn't edit the default Target  "Windows Computers with Software Update Plug-in Installed Target".
To edit each update takes a long time (more than 200 Updates).
I've edited the "Windows Patch Remediation Settings" and excluded the special Filter. But the clients have installed the updates.
Now I've edited the Target of the "Software Update Plugin". For the first time, it works. But  I'm looking for a way to prevent the Installation of the Updtaes while the Software Update plugin is installed.

    Any Ideas?? Thanks

Assign that special filter to a closed maintenance window.

Good Idea, Thanks. I will try this.
But some updates are set to "Run as soon as possible"
Maybe it doesn't disturb the Installation .

What do you mean by "installation of a client"?  Are you talking installing the Symantec Management Agent?  Or rebuilding a machine?

I would simply wait to install the Software Update Plug-in until you're ready to have it receive patches.

    Hi,

I mean the rebuild of a machine.

All my agent policies are turned "on".

And all clients in my "installation filter" are excluded from the policy. So I prevent the installation of the Software Update Plugin.

At the End of the Installation (after OS, Drivers, Software etc.) I remove the machine from the "Install filter" and the Software Update Plugin will be installed.

But one Problem still exist. If I run the Task to turn the machine into a special Filter against a system which is connected to a site server, the task failed!
    I've opened another thread.
