Ever since our IT dept. installed SEP I've noticed problems sending email via Outlook (naive OS X client) and openning excel files.  Emails can take a minute to send while an excel file can take minutes to load.  I noticed a process call edpa running at 100% CPU, killing the process allows emails to be sent and files to be opened immediately.  However, the edpa process will re-spawn and I'm forced to kill it each time to get emails sent and excel files loaded.

SEP (for Mac) V14 Build 1904

    Outlook for Mac V15.33 (170409)

    Excel for Mac V15.33 (170409)

    OSX 10.12.3 (16D32)

You will need to speak to your IT department so they can investigate it, including looking at the log files to see what the delay is.

edpa is a DLP agent process, looks like it nothing to do with Symantec SEP.

Kindly move this thread to DLP forum

The delay in sending emails is due to the Data Loss Prevention (DLP) agent scanning the outgoing files for whatever data they are monitoring (credit card #s, Social Security #s, etc.).  The scanning is being performed on the workstation.

You might suggest to your IT department to use DLP's Network Prevent for Email to scan the data as it is being sent out from Exchange to the Internet, instead.  Then they can turn off the DLP agent's SMTP email scanning feature so that users are not impacted by the scans.
