  • 1.  Encryption of a new file added to protected folder

An authorized user is adding files to a protected folder but the added files do not encrypt automatically. I know this because, when I check the folder status, it shows that the number of files un-encrypted matches the number of files added. A re-encrypt fo the folder does encrypt the new files. From the documentation I've read, adding files to a protected folder should encrypt them automatically. Have I missed something when establishing the protected folder?

I think you are referring to File Share Encryption. Am I right?

PGP services need to be running on a machine where File Share Encryption is configured in order to automatically encrypt files.

Yes, I am referring to File Share Encryption. Running the PGP services was the part I was missing. Thankyou.

Unfortunately, this has led to another question. I'm not familiar with the inner workings of running services so I don't know how to set this up. Can you help me again please?

I'll try. In the first response to my question, it was stated that "PGP services need to be running" & I'm not sure what those services are nor how thet are set up. Is the service setup when File Share Encryption is installed?

    Thankyou

The PGP services are those starting from "PGP" in Task Manager > Processes. They are started once you login to the machine. If they are not running, you should just start Symantec Encryption Desktop so you will receive the message about starting PGP services
