Endpoint Protection

Endpoint appears to be the culprit in causing Access 2013 to hang. Obviously, it's a work laptop and I can't uninstall any component of Endpoint. What can we do about this? Why is this happening?

whats the version of SEP you are on , 12.1.5 is the latest? can you please check if issue exists after upgrading to 12.1.5?

Need to know the version and what components are installed. Latest verison is 12.1.5

You can try to stop the smc. What the events generated while crash the service?

12.1.4 is our version and unfortunately, I can't upgrade it (it would have to be a company-wide upgrade and I don't work in our IT team). It doesn't crash, just hangs for 1-5 minutes. Only happens when I have the property sheet open in Access :S

Have you tried to open it after stop the symantec service?

I can't disable it outright unfortunately as I don't have the authority. But I added an exception for msaccess.exe and for the database file and the issue still persists.

This is an issue. You need to be able to test it by disabling components so it can be narrowed down to one specific one. My guess is the AV component but we wouldn't know until it's tested. I would bring this to the attention of your IT dept so they can work with you on it. The other problem is you're running an old version. You would need to get to 12.1.5 to see if it's resolved. If not, a support case needs to be opened.

I'm battling with them now. They are claiming that they only support up to Office 2010 (even though Office 2013 is available on our company's website). 12.1.5 will happen whenever our company approves the update. I guess I'll have to check back in here at a later date.

Testing needs to be done with the components to narrow it down.

you dont have to update all your machines to 12.1.5, upgrade on the problamatic machine, if the issue still persists then you need to contact support, if not then plan for upgrade. this will save time

Does this issue happen when you creating/viewing a report and switching from report view to design view with the properties sheet open? Tested the freeze issue today on 2 different workstations running Symantec 12.1.4. With the property sheet open in design view & switch the view to report, form view, etc. the program stops responding. If you close the property sheet before changing views it will not hang. A viable workaround until someone figures out how to properly fix the issue. Hope this helps.

Same problem running 12.1.5 build 5337 and Access 2013.  I can't uninstall Symantec on my work computer, but I'm about to uninstall it on my home computer unless this is being actively addressed.

Same problem running Access with SEP 12.1.5 build 5337.  I don't have the option to uninstall either.
