Is Symantec EndPoint anti-virus compatible with Windows 7?  I tried testing and it will not install on this OS. Can someone identify a different product I can use?

You need to be on RU 5 for it to be supported

You can install SEP version 11.0.4202.75 as well as 11.0.5002.333
But the officially supported version for Windows 7 is 11.0.5002.333 ( RU5 )

But even with 11.0.5 there remains an installation bug with Windows 7 unless you are installing unmanaged from the CD. If you are installing managed, you must install LiveUpdate first, reboot, and then install SEP 11.0.5, according to many, many posts on this forum.

Symantec finally acknowledged this is a bug about a month after the 11.0.5 release and it was supposed to be fixed in December - what's the status of that fix?

I had no problems installing a managed one on windows 7.  I was running windows 7 as soon as it went RTM and built a clean image as soon as I got RU5.   No issues.  I also have both a 32 and a 64 bit image that I am testing witn

Rick,  I haven't seen anyone else say what you're saying when they have a clean Windows 7 install that doesn't already have LiveUpdate installed.

As early as August 12, Symantec employees were telling people to install unmanaged from the CD and then drop the sylink file to become managed:  https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/sep-client-wont-install

The other alternative is what I listed above: install LiveUpdate first (and make sure you install LU v3.3) and then do the SEP install. That is all over the postings since RU5 was released and continues through to today.

On Richv's November 2 posting https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/idea/endpoint-protection-1105-managed-package-wont-install-windows-7-pro-x64 we were told Symantec acknowleged the install bug and was going to release a fix by the first week of December. If that is not the case, someone please let me know so I can quit holding my breath.

BTW, Richv described the problem extremely well. I've been telling everyone here that a solution is coming soon, but I've been telling them that for months about a solution for Snow Leopard as well.

Perhaps all of us who have posted discussions about this issue (bug) should file a Case report like Richv did and then we'll see a resolution.

I think the bug that Joannie is referring to is here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2009110712450848. As far as I know if you are installing from a clean image you will not see this issue. Also this issue does not seem to be on all computers. For instance I was able to upgrade my test box perfectly from MP4 to RU5. If this is not the issue you were referring to Joannie please feel free to correct me or make a post to the link you were talking about.

    Thanks
    Grant

    Hey, Grant.

I am talking about the complete opposite.  :-)

A clean Windows 7 system that has never had a Symantec install will not allow a managed install. Unmanaged from the CD works perfectly, but Liveupdate must be installed before doing a managed install, or the install fails at the Liveupdate point. I provided two links above. I would check out Richv''s item since he worded it quite accurately.

If you're upgrading from MP4 to RU5, then you already have LU3.3 and you won't experience any managed install problems with Win7. But my Win7 computers are brand new and don't have any Symantec products previously installed.
