Has anyone else had the problem of an error popping up during installation of SEPM 11x on 2008 server that states, "Installation of Symantect Endpoint Protection Manager is not allowed on Windows Vista."?

We had problems originally with the IIS 6 Compatibility mode not being enabled, and we got past that error by obviously enabling it. But now this new problem is keeping us from installing it on a client's server.

    Any help would be appreciated.

MR3 and previous are not compatible with Windows Server 2008 and would have read the version of Windows as Vista.

Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 11 Maintenance Release (MR) 4 is supported on the Windows 2008 Server platform.
For information on how to obtain the latest build of Symantec Endpoint Protection, read Obtaining an upgrade or update for Symantec Endpoint Protection.

We are using version 11.0.4, which I understand is supposed to be compatible with Windows Server 2008. Now you understand why I'm concerned that we're getting a Vista error message when installing it. We even downloaded it a second time just to be sure that we got the right version.

Interesting, I haven't ran into that before myself, but you might be able to bypass the check by running the msi directly instead of the setup.exe. Try this: Browse into the SEPM folder and run the "Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.msi" directly. Let me know if that worked for you.

    Hope that helps!

    hi David-Z

I have the same problem and when I try to run the msi it still displays ''Installation of Symantec Endpoint Protection manager is not allowed on Eindows Vista.''
Do you have any other solutions or sugestions? Although I have not tried it yet but do you know if the older versions of SEPM work on W2K8?

    Any feedback will be apreciated
    Thanks

Is it possible that it is 2008 R2?

SP2 for 2008 server isnt required for MR4, I installed MR4 on my server 2008 RTM
