The first thing to check for is conflicts with current software on the machine. Antivirus, HIDS, backup agents, encryption agents, all of those things can cause this behavior. If that is not the problem then the issue is likely with your policies. Each policy that is created and pushed to the endpoint agents builds a cumulative matrix of scanning conditions. This matrix grows exponentially and there is a "tipping" point where the agent starts to malfunction. So if you have several policies with different rules and exceptions you can quickly run into situations where the memory usage is extremely high.
