This message indicates that the image create task specific sysprep configuration can not be run on the client OS.  You need to use the version of sysprep specific to the operating system you are deploying.  Please note that Win 2K, XP 32-bit and XP 64-bit all have different versions of sysprep.

that's exactly what I thought, and I extracted the Deploy.cab file from the windos xp cd, given the fact that xp is the OS I'm trying to create the image, but still got the same error, I checked if win xp had the firewall on just in case, but no

Depending on your version of XP install disk and installed XP (SP2), the deploy.cab or sysprep.exe files may be outdated.

Click the 1st link under Information, and that'll take you to where you can download updated files.

    Hope this helps.

I extracted the Deploy.cab from a windows xp sp2 the same one I use to install the sample machine.

    Hi Jorge,

Can you take one step back and run sysprep manually on the sample machine to confirm that the sysprep files and answer file are correct.

How many files do you prepare for the sysprep configuration to load and what file version do they have?

    Thanks,
    Jenny

I just ran the sysprep manually on the client machine and the minisetup, went throuh all the way with the sysprep.inf file.
at the server I create a sysprep folder in which I put all my uncompressed files including the sysprep.inf answer file
the version of the sysprep.exe file is 5.1.2600.2180
the account I'm using on the console is the domain admin account and the sample machine is joined to domain already, well I use that account to install the client, hope this gives u a clue
    thanks for the help

    Hi Jorge,

That is great news, thanks for the manual sysprep testing.  Can you provide more information about the client machine, like how many partitions and disks does the client machine have, whether there is any other OS exists on the same machine?  Can you please post the sysprep image create task scenario in here?

    Thanks,
    Jenny

is a very simple scenario, although I forgot to mention I doing all this in  a testing enviroment using vmware server, before doing the actual deployment, about the client machine there is only one os installed on a single partition xp sp2
about the create task scenario, I'm trying to pull the image, to make a master image for deployment, if you would like to elaborate more as to what details about the create image task you need, after running the setupmgr.exe on the client machine to create the sysprep.exe, I decompressed all the deploy.cab + the sysprep.inf to C:\sysprep folder on the server, the tast initialse just fine, but end with an error while trying to copy the sysprep file to client machine

    Hi Jorge,

Briefly, a XP sysprep configuration needs to be created first.  The purpose of the XP sysprep configuration is let Console to know and load sysprep files (for 2k and xp they are extracted from deploy.cab + sysprep.inf file).  If a sysprep configuration is included in an image create task, then a created image is sysprep'd.  When the image create task gets run, it will copy the sysprep configuration specified files into the client machine first.  If the sysprep files do not match the client's OS, the files will not be copied and the task will fail and report an error.

If your problem does not fail with this, then we need to look into something else.

Since how to setup the XP sysprep configuration part is unclear in the previous posts, I would like to confirm this step first.

What sysprep configuration name that you used (entered) when creating the XP sysprep configuration? Can you please go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symanetec\Sysprep three and see whether there is a folder with the name as you specified in the XP sysprep configuration, and the folder contains all the files that are correct for XP sp2?

    Thanks,
    Jenny

ok, my configuration on the sysprep tab of the create image task is exactly like you said, I named my configuration sysprep1, and pointed to where my sysprep.ex files were located c:\sysprep, also checked the change SID and run the minisetup wizard, and the folder was created under C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symanetec\Sysprep, just like you said, now I created a second create image task and configured exactly the same and it worked..........which I don't like cause I don't know what went wrong with the first one, but thanks for your help
