  • 1.  Error message deploying SEP11 onto Vista client

No matter how I try to install SEP onto a Vista laptop, I always receive an error message saying something to the effect that Symantec detected updates that were made, requiring a computer reboot. Despite rebooting and trying again, nothing works. I've inactivated UAC and turned off the Windows firewall. Has anyone seen this message before? I may not be very experienced with this program, however, I successfully installed this on the server and deployed it to three XP PC's thus far. I suspect that this is a Vista problem or at least one specific to the particular Vista PC I'm working with.

    Navigate to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\

and rename PendingFileRenameOperations to PendingFileRenameOperations2 and then run the setup

If the above doesnot work then try

Title: 'Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 11 client installation fails with the message "Pending system changes that require a reboot have been detected"'
    Document ID: 2007121609023348

Thanks so much!  Worked like a charm. I don't know why I didn't think of that!!  Should I now reverse the process and re-rename the item ...Operations (without the 2)?
