  • 1.  Error Update SEP for Mac

    Posted Jan 28, 2011 09:22 AM

    Hi.

Currently we have problem to update the SEP clients for Mac v11.0.6.
The scenario we use is: Server 2003 with the SEPM console and Liveupdate Administrator v11.0.6005.502 v2.2.9 (for downloading updates for Mac)
When you export the package, with installation on Macs, it works fine, but when I run the first update, he remains determined that there is available, not updated. When you run a review of the logs, is as follows:

Jan 26, 2011 5:05:38 PM An active session JLU has been detected.
Jan 26, 2011 5:05:38 PM JLU WAS Able to successfully connect to Its Own listener thread.
Jan 26, 2011 5:05:38 PM An active session JLU has been detected.
Jan 26, 2011 5:05:38 PM Checking to see if a session of JLU is running at port 49213.
Jan 26, 2011 5:05:38 PM JLU WAS Able to successfully connect to Its Own listener thread.
Jan 26, 2011 5:05:38 PM Checking to see if a session of JLU is running at port 49214.
Jan 26, 2011 5:05:38 PM An active session JLU has been detected.
    Jan 26, 2011 5:05:38 PM
Jan 26, 2011 5:05:38 PM The Java LiveUpdate session did not complete successfully.
    Jan 26, 2011 5:05:38 PM Return code = -1

In reviewing the logs of Mac computers, is a Java error, every time you try to update:

     MachineX Jan 27 11:30:01 [0x0-0x16016]. Com.Symantec.LiveUpdate [1775]: Exception in thread "main"
    MachineX Jan 27 11:30:01 [0x0-0x16016]. Com.Symantec.LiveUpdate [1775]: java.lang.NullPointerException
    MachineX Jan 27 11:30:01 [0x0-0x16016]. Com.Symantec.LiveUpdate [1775]: at com.symantec.liveupdate.LiveUpdate.endSession (DashoA5380)

In a post, indicating that the process should end Liveupdate, but the look did not detect this process, it was decided to end the java process that had at that time working. After that, it started again Liveupdate, and Mac clients for SEP updated properly, and was reflected in the console.
When the computer restarts, again and again presents the problem, it is determined that there are to install, and plays back end processes to perform the upgrade.

What can be done to solve this problem?
We have worked with the following information.

    Jorge,

Java Return code = -1 just means it the session failed to run successfully. The Java message you're seeing is to be expected if it cannot establish a connection.

If you are sending the Update Content command from the SEPM while no one is logged in to the computer, this can occur:

Macintosh LiveUpdate error: "LiveUpdate is automatically updating your Symantec Products. Wait until this process completes before using LiveUpdate again."

Is your LUA using the default clu-prod (Apache directory) or IIS website for hosting distribution center content? Can the Mac connect to the URL provided to it via LiveUpdate policy?

This may not be related since you indicate 11.0.6005, but if you are using 11.0.6200, be sure your LUA is configured to handle the new definition filetype.

    Hi Jorge,

I definitely recommend moving those SEP for Mac clients to RU6 MP2.  I have never had any trouble at all updating RU6 MP2 from LUA 2.x servers, though the initial release (RU6) has failed to update according to a number of threads here in the forum.

I also recommend keeping an eye out for LUA 2.3, which will be available in about a month.  This new version will have a lot of performance enhancements that provide far superior performance to LUA 2.2.

Please keep the forum up-to-date with your progress!

    Thanks and best regards,

    Mick
