  • 1.  Expired password ok for BootGuard but fails windows login

    Posted Sep 18, 2016 08:11 AM

    Hello,

I cannot log in to windows. I pass through PGP BootGuard with no problems. When windows starts up I get this message "Logon failure: the specified account password has expired". After I click either OK or Cancel I get to PGP SSO screen (windows login screen with account thumbnail, just Cancel option there), from there to CTRL-ALT-DEL screen, then standard windows login screen. When I try to enter the same password I passed through BootGuard with it just tells me it is incorrect, with no options to change it.

I do not have password reset disk.  I tried to create password recovery disk and WDE Recovery USB stick (using image I found on symantec website, I cant make it bootable though) but I must be doing something wrong because BootGuard does not allow me to select other disk than encrypted disk1.

Any ideas how to solve this or is it bricked for good? Can I somehow decrypt the drive to get to my data? I am using Symantec Drive Encryption 10.3.2

Issue just solved itself the next day. On another try the option to change the password was offered on login screen. Strange...

I've never seen this, but if you have a drive that is encrypted and you need to get into it, you can plug the drive into another computer with PDP Desktop, use the bootguard passphrase to get in and then decrypt it.
