Failed to contact or import data from....?

    Hi,

We're running Symantec 10.1.5.5000 (Security Centre/Corporate) and trying to migrate to Endpoint.

We had a few issues during the installation.

    Such as:

Being told that the built in database already existed.
Then how the database couldn't be created
Then we had a login error
Then we were asked for a password but only gave us an entry for four options including a server name and port number. It complained the port number was in use. Then complained that we need to specify a password.

Eventually things seemed like they worked

    Except we can't migrate.

    Im getting the:

"Failed to contact or import data from XXXXX" (where XXXXX is the server name).

    Totally confused.

    Any thoughts?

Logs seem to be inconclusive. Seems to suggest its getting at least the client list, but that's about it. Tried connecting on localhost/127.0.0.1 as well.

    It's on the local server.

    Thanks
    Simon

These are incidentally the issues we have in the "Management Server Configuration Wizard" and the steps we took:

Welcome to the Management Server Configuration Wizard
        Install my first site

        Next >

Specify the server name, port number and data folder for the management server you want to install or configure.

        Server name: xxxxx
        Server port: 8443
Server data folder: D:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\data

        Next >

What do you want to name the site?

        Site name: xxxxx

        Next >

The management server and client computers encrypt the data they send each other. You will need to create an encryption password below and enter it in the event of disaster recovery.

        Specify an encryption password: xxxx
        Confirm an encyrption password: xxxx

        Next >

Select the type of database you want to use.

        Embedded database

        Next >

Specify the password you wish to use to log on to the management server.

        User name: admin
        Password: xxxx
        Confirm password: xxxx

        Next >

    Dialog:
    Creating Database
The database is being created and initialized. This will take a few minutes.

    Dialog:
    Error - Preparing Database
JZ00L: Login failed. Examine the SQLWarnings chained to this exception for the reason(s).

    OK

For maximum security, specify a password to use for the embedded database.

    Database server: localhost
    Database server port: 2638
    Database name: sem5
    User: DBA

    Next >

    Dialog:
The server port is used by another application. You must choose a different port.

    OK

    Action:
    Change port to 2639

    Dialog:
    A password must be specified

    Action
Click back and re-enter the password

Obviously, Im concerned about the issues highlighted in red.

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers
    Simon

I am also receiving this exact same issue. Symantec, please reply soon with a corrective action. Our license expires next month and I have to compare Symantec's solution to Kaspersky for the CFO. If I can't even install Symantec's product, then I don't believe the conversation will be too long. Whatever information or error logs you need, I can provide.

I have this issue as well.

Attempting to migrate SAV 10.2 to SEP in a single-server (Windows Small Business Server 2003) environment.

SEPM is running on SAV Parent Server. SSC is not installed on Parent Server.

When launching the Migration wizard, get "failed to contact or import data".

FWIW, me too; have tried by IP Address and servername.  System Centre is on a different machine, but the same happened when trying to install on that machine as well.

Any resolution for this problem. I'm in the same situation. System center and antivirus server on same machine. System center not uninstalled. Installation completed with no errors. Now I'm stuck at the migration wizard with the same error? Is it really required to uninstall the system center? Will I be able to start this migration wizard again after uninstall of system center?

Uninstalling the SSC doesn't help. Please post in this thread.

Well... sucks to be Symantec. Due to their software completely obliterating my servers, and absolutely no responses, I've moved on. No more money from me!

Also, after doing a spell-check, it tries to correct "Symantec" with "Semantic". LOL - Maybe they should add their own company name into their spell-check database. Either way, this is probably my last post on any "Semantic" related forum as I no longer have any of their software.

    Nuts to you Symantec!

Did you take this up with tech Support? They are very quick in getting back...
