We have mulitple e-mail systems.   example.com   and  icon.com.  the two e-mail systemts talked to each other via the SBG boxes.
My exmple.com users keep typoing icon.com as icons.com.

Anyway to write this?  the traffic arrives on the outbound interface.   SBG 9.0

Under Protocols, then Aliases. You can add an alias of icon.com to resolve to icons.com.

Nope.  Tried that.   Flow is  Example.com -> outbound i/f SBG 9  -> local delivery Exchange

    From the help:
Alias translation only applies to inbound or internal messages processed by Symantec Brightmail Gateway. Once the gateway allows email to connect to the inbound scanner, it determines whether the address in the SMTP envelope To: field is an alias and translates it into any destination addresses during the connection session. Transformed addresses are written back to the SMTP envelope To: before the scanner filters the message. The contents of the message To: and Cc: headers are ignored and not changed.

Moving the flow to the inbound interface, since this box is handling local and non-local routing and example.com is tossing all non-local stuff my way.

It seemed strange that you didn't know about that feature, guess I should have figured. I suppose you just have to set up Exchange/DNS to send mail to icon.com to your inbound interface.

Don't your users have address books where they can just click on a person's name instead of having to type in their email addresses?

Nope.  Seperate divisions and the MS Active Directories aren't tied.

People don't need to be in Active Directory to be in your address book...

True, I suppose they gotta learn some how.  Anyway, a merged LDAP being thought about, or contacts from both AD domains being created in each domain. But that REALLY messes with address resolution since the SBG environment is shared.
