    Hello,

We are planning an upgrade of SEPM from 12.X to 14.X I have seen all of the articles outling what you need to do and I have found all of the files I am looking for. The only one I am having trouble with is the Recovery File. I can locate it without any problems, but all of the files themselves are from 2016. Being 2 years old is hardly new and I am hoping that someone could tell me a simple way of generating a new one. I have seen a couple of different methods from older threads but none of them were very clear, I am just looking for the simplest least intrusive method of generating a new recovery file.

    Thanks!

Have you tried running the management server config wizard? http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH165225

I did try using the wizard but I'm not really sure how our server is configured. I also don't know if I should use the default recovery file when I open the wizard, what DB we are using etc. Is there a way I can go through the reconfiguration without changing anything?

To update or restore a server certificate

    1. In the console, click Admin, and then click Servers.

    2. Under Servers, under Local Site, click the management server for which you want to update the server certificate.

    3. Under Tasks, click Manage Server Certificate, and then click Next.

    4. In the Manage Server Certificate panel select backup server cert, it should backup the latest one

    5. Backing up a server certificate

This generated a backup certificate. I am looking to generate a new Recovery File. Similar to the ones in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Server Private Key Backup

management wizard will not change anything, open services.msc if it shows up Symantec embedded database service, then the DB is internal, you dont need to change or enter anything, just run through the setup, I tried on my machine and it created a new file

There won't be any changes by running it and it should allow you to generate a new file.

Do I need to use a recovery file? The configuration wizard makes it seem like I need to in order to restore communication with previously deployed clients.

You can leave the default , click on Next ( Take backup of those keys just in case)

That should generate a new one.

Those were genearated in 2016, but still valid. It would automatically use the latest one which is in use.

Whoops. Yeah I forgot about that. I have some clients reporting in now. Also manually forcing them to connect green lights them.
