  • 1.  Ghost 8.2 Multicast failure, Unicast success...

    Hello,
We've been running Ghost for a long time and this is the first time we've had this problem.  Large network with 3000+ computers.  Anyway, no matter the hardware type when I try to multicast either via the console or a ghost boot disk it times out.  Both computers show up in the list in the ghostcast session but just sit there.  If I do a unicast on either of these machines, it works fine.  I've rebooted the server and checked the services and they seem fine.

I'm wondering if it's a network issue, but I was able to multicast from a backup ghost server.

Does anyone have any clues before I get the networking group involved?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

One common issue is firewall software blocking the ports in GhostCast server. However, we can rule it out since the client can connect to the server.

Then it most likely multicasting not available in the network, but you could multicast successfully with the backup server.

In large networks, usually servers are in a different subnet with more restrictions. Does your backup server is also in the same subnet as the main server? Could it be multicasting not available in the subnet of the server?
