After starting with a Ghost multicast deployment job to 17 workstations, it was averaging 600 Mb/min for the first hour or so of the task. Then all of the sudden, it comes to complete crawl. You can watch the MB tansmitted go from 20-30 MB each second to 1 MB every few seconds. It will finnally slowdown to about 40 MB/min for the overall mulitcast job and take 36 to 48 hours to complete. What is very intreseting is that I can run another 15 workstations connected to the same server unicast and they all finish up in about 2 hours. Also, when I log into the server to check to files it is accessing and the overall progress, I am not seeing it accessing any of the *.gho or *.ghs files like it once was. Is there something wrong with ghostsrv.exe and how it access files?

    Bstaupp,

Could I get some background please..

Ghost Version and Build number (Help->About in console or Ghost Standard Tools)?

    Did multicasting work fine recently?

Did you install an update recently to the server Ghostcast is housed on?

Did you upgrade to a recent build of Ghost recently?

    Any network changes?

Brycen - Using GSS 3.1 SP4. It appears that the Ghostsrv.exe started crashing and having problems with SP5 and hopefully that is now fixed in SP6?  I have been really hesitant to upgrade that might be causing more problems that what I have now. I know that GSS 3.2 is out as well that might be good to upgrade too if it helps with this problem.

The Ghostsrv.exe is version 12.0.0.8051. It has been a few years that Ghost Multicast (Not Ghost.exe peer-to-peer multicast) - with the Ghostsrv.exe has worked really well, like 1200 MB/Min.

I know that some of it is due to network changes going from a Layer 2 to Layer 3 switches, etc. and having to get IGMP re-enabled and IGMP snooping as well. Those are turned back on we are not having the network flooding like we had in the past. This seems to be something a little more timed with a large ghost image file that is getting deployed that might take 2-3 hours and about 1 hour into it starts getting pulled back little by little until hit's one 1mb/min and take 48 hours to fully complete. Not sure if there is some kind of Cisco configuration that might be causing that...

Does that help explain it a little more?

    Bstaupp,

I would recommend upgrading to MP6, there are some good fixes in there. See the below release notes for documentation.

It almost sounds like your network is throttling the connection after a certain amount of time? Below is a comprehensive document on how ghostcast multicasting works over the network.

    BStaupp,

Did upgrading to MP6 resolve the issue you were experiencing?
