Is there anyway to have a client to take updates from a gup.

Currently due to network issue only gup is able to communicate with the sep server, so policies will not reach the clients. I watn some solution so that i can make the clients take updates from that gup temporarily. later when network become active they can take the plicy from the sep server itself, its very urgent please....

GUP only provide updates, no policy is pushed to client by GUP.
Clients will only talk to SEPM for policy

Not sure if i understood you correctly.

the purpose of gup is to update clients.

Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 Group Update Provider (GUP)

This waht a GUP does, update the clients that are there in its Group, So if the GUP is working , it would be updating the clients in its Group, for the rest of the clients that are not in the group,  move them in this group where the GUP is functional , or Create a new GUP in that Group.

But unitil and uless the client receives new LU policy about the GUP , it will not take the update from the GUP,

So you have to copy the policy localy on the mahineor troubleshoot the commuincation problem.

the problem here is clients are not able to talk to the server and the LU policy cannot be recieved by them(due to network issue) so can i force the client to contact the gup there to get updates from. Any registry modification on the client to be done??

Replace the updated Sylink.xml on the clients.

If you have modified the policy(assign a diffrent GUP or modify liveupdate settings) after the connection loss and client have not got that policy then there is no way to force the clients to check the GUP...

But.. If the clients have got the policies before the connection loss I think it should contact GUP for updates.... If GUP is able to get the updates from server it should serve the updates to clients....

    Test this...
Restart SEP service and give update policy in the clients and check the logs.
Find out whether you are getting.... use GUP @.....

If GUP is able to get the updates and policy from server and if GUP is within the group of your clients, then you can export the policy from your GUP to the Clients

GUP > Help and Support > Troubleshooting > Managing server > Policy > export

now you can import this file within each client.
