GUP updates

Hi, and sorry for my english, I'am French ... =)

I have a group (ex: My society\4 - AGENCES\22-St-Alban). This group communicate with Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) by VPN. In this group, I have 10 computers with 1 GUP. I want the GUP will update during the night with SEPM for example, and that customers updates on this GUP the day. The problem is that the GUP uses the same policy that customers.

    My question is:

How to make the GUP uses a different policy to its customers ? At least, how to plan its updates at a fix time ?

    Thanks,

    Benjamin

You can create a new group and break inheritance on it. Then create a policy which will only apply to this group.

Hi and thanks for the reply,

If I understand, in my group "My society\4 - AGENCES\22-St-Alban", i create 2 groups, one with the GUP computer and one with the others customers ?

Yes, you just need to split them out from your other customers.

Also, you cannot schedule updates from GUP to clients. It happens automatically.

if they are communicating with SEPM using VPN then you can set a policy to get updates directly from internet. No GUP needed in this scenario

You cannot schedule an update time from SEPM. clients will get updates when they talk to SEPM

Okay, i see what you say.

So I created a new policy that affects the GUP group . But I don't see where to configure the policy to tell him to go do his updates at a fix time ? I can configure the name of the GUP computer, port, but the time ? (see attach)

Because configuring a time is not possible. It happens automatically and is not configurable at this time. Sorry.

    Okay,

it's possible to assign a policy (p-A) to GUP who say "get your updates from liveUpdate server at 4 am" and assign a second policy on group with the other customers who say "get your update from the GUP p-A" ?

    This group can communicate ?

    Thanks for your help =)

Yes, you just need to create a LiveUpdate policy and edit the schedule settings accordingly.

They would need a separate policy as well for this but should be possible.

    Sounds good.

Policies are applied to groups, you need to group your users.

group A: get udpates from internet at 4am

group B: get udpates from GUP

this was its easy to manage and troubleshoot in case of any issues.
