  • 1.  GUP Updating clients but not itself

    Ok we are running RU5 and have installed SEP client onto a machine that is running CA Unicentre Software Delivery and a SQL server.  The server is working just fine as a GUP and is updating all cleint machines just fine.

    However it just does not update itself.  The server previously had SAV 10.1.7.7000 on it which was removed using add/remove programs and SEP installed.  We have tried removing SEP and re-installing it but again it does not update itself.

    We have run the DEF fix tool and this worked in that the definitnions were back dated to 18th August 2009 but no further update after that.  The server does NOT have threat protection or firewall installed just the AV/Antispyware component.

    So has anyone got any ideas?? I'm not keen on running CleanWipe to see if that resolves it as this may break CA on the server.

    First try by reinstalling Liveupdate

    Try by removing sep manually and install once again and see any improvements present

    Ok tried the Liveupdate removal but this didn't do anything.

    Will try the manual removal if we can get the local staff to let us reboot the server 9it's in Hungary and we're int he UK).

    The SEP Support tool did highlight it couldn't resolve the netbios name of the management server but could resolve the ip.  Have added that into the hosts file for now to see if that helps.  Other than that the SEP tool reports everything is ok despite the server being months out of date with it's def's.

    Hi,

    We need to identify if the issue is with the SEP client unable to retrieve definitions from SEPM, or the liveupdate component installed on the machine unable to process the definitions.

    For that, please do the following: sart->run->"luall" ->OK.

    If liveupdate is updated by this method, then issue was with SEP-SEPM communication. If the issue persists, then it is local to the machine.
