Needing some assistance on why these two are so different.  The video attached which is working correctly is from my local system.  The system which is not working correctly is from another system which I'm using for testing.  This issue was first brought to my attention when our patch admin showed me.  I can access everything correctly from the server and locally from my system.  I've verified all Internet explorer settings with my own as well as Java.  What am I missing?  Can anyone shed some insight on this please.  See videos for exact issue.  We are running IE 11 in compatibility mode on both systems.  If I enable/open the F12 Developer tools on the system which isn't opening correctly it will then respond like it should.  Which doesn't make sense to me.

    Thank you,

    Misty

    Hi!

    1. You said that both I.E have same security settings - (SMP Server is added as trusted site). Scripting settings and ActiveX controls?

    2. You have installed AltirisNSControls.cab on both I.E?

    3. You're using same Account from same "Symantec Administrators" role or different account from different roles in both cases?

Otherwise: You're able to see this Patch policy directly in SMP Console under this account and I.E, where problem occurs?

    4. Maybe it sounds ridiculous, but how about to clear I.E cache, etc?

    5. Does "Altiris Log Viewer" show something useful to determine why this problem occurs?

    Thanks,

    IP.

I have checked all of the above.  I even had our laptop admin give me a fresh machine like what our patch admin is using.  Reconfigured IE to the same settings.  Installed the AltirisNSControls.cab, logged in with the same account, cache is cleared, Altiris log view doesn't show anything nor does the event logs on the local machine.  I've ran into similar articles on Microsoft's site:  https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/itmanagement/en-US/9a3996fc-81c0-46af-a055-8710b7ca2434/ie-11-open-in-new-tab-not-working?forum=ieitprocurrentver  however re-registering the dlls did not solve the problem.    I know its got to be something small I'm overlooking.  And it will work if the F12 Developer tools are open which is the strange thing.

    Hmm. Strange..

    • I.E version is the same with I.E which works?
    • You're using I.E x64 or x86? (Need to use x86)
    • Are you opening I.E via "Run as Administrator"?

IE is X86 I'm not running as administrator on either machine I'm running both machines as a domain admin, so I should have full rights either way.

You can open "Altiris Profiler" on SMP Server and reproduce this issue.

Profiler will collect all required data and then you can analyze it to try to catch a root cause of this problem.

After working for 2 days on this and comparing setting after setting between the working console and the failing console, I decided to take a long shot approach.  The only other item which was different with the working console versus the non-working console was google toolbar was installed.  So, I installed google toolbar on the system which wasn't working and suddenly it started working.  I'm not sure what the google toolbar changed.  But it fixed the issue we were experiencing without having to open up the Developer Tools or manually browse to the patch policies trying to edit.
