    Hello,

As you posted Symantec does not support a hot backup of the Oracle database, a supported backup of Oracle is a cold backup.  Within the DOCS.zip file you can download from Symantec Connect w/ the rest of the files is the Oracle Installation guide.  There is a chapter dedicated to backup that talks about how to perform a backup of the system.

If you perform a hot backup of the Oracle system and there is a problem with the database or restoration of the database Symantec will not be able to help out. Keep that it in mind if you go that route.

    Hi Jjesse,

I am already aware whatever you have commented. I am looking for if anyone has come across such experience where theyhad any Hot backup idea.

I have customers that have more Oracle knowledge/information then I do and have configured Hot Backups using the Oracle tools to do this.  However they are all working with the impression that if the hot backup fails for some reason, Symantec will not support them.

A running/healthy oracle instance would always be recognized post restore by enforce unless the order is missed. Thus, I would focus just on Oracle & investigate more into this topic into a different Product (forum/discussion) Category like Netbackup or BackupExec (if you are using a Symantec Backup Solution ofcourse)
