  • 1.  How to associate a Software Component to a Software Product?

    Hi everybody!

     

    SMP Version: 7.6 HF7

    I'm facing some troubles to associate a Software Component to a Software Product.

    My Software Component (Visio Professional 2013) is already created and I would like to associate it to my Software Product "Microsoft Visio Professional 2013".

    Anyone know how to do that?

     

    The option Software Product doesn't appear when I access the Software Component Page.

    The behaviour has changed. Now you need to create the Software Product and the Software Release will be assocaited with it automatically but only if there are any installs of it. One thing that can happen is that the inventory can get assocaited to a Software Component that isn't your Software Release.

    Go to Manage > Software > Software Releases and select your "Microsoft Visio Professional 2013". See if there are any installs shown in the lower right hand pane.

    The go to your Software Product and make sure your criteria aren't too tight. So Name should be Visio+professional+2013 and version just 15. (with the period). After each adjustment the list of Software Components should refresh. If yours doesn't come up try selecting "use software components from other products".

    First of all, thanks for your reply.

     

    What you said make totally sense, but in my case it's not working.

     

    My software product and software realease have the same name and version, but when I set anything in my software release, it's showing me a message that already there is a software product with the same name and to change it. I'm attaching some prints bellow.

     

    Software Product - Visio Professional 2013

    The print bellow is the Software Product when I click on the button "manage this software" of my software release.

    Am I doing anything wrong? I'm asking that because I won't to delete my software product or my software release. Both have some configuration that I won't do again.

    So either you've already created a Software Product called "Microsoft Visio Professional 2013" or there's a built in one supplied by Symantec. In Manage > Softwar look under all Software Products instead of "Installed Software Products". It may be that the existing "Microsoft Visio Professional 2013" Software Product hasn't picked up your Software Release for whatever reason. I'ts the "Identify Inventory tab that's important, the version there should just be '15.'
