Having my Ghost 2003 CD in the office, I downloaded at home a test version of Ghost 15 just for creating one disk image (XP,SP2). The test version does not support that function. Uninstall seems to be incomplete. Ghost 2003 is no more installable (error like ".. cannot identify your Ghost version, please uninstall manually". Reinstalling, rebooting, re-uninstalling and again rebooting: problem remains. Now I cannot install anymore my original Ghost 2003 version. Ok, it is old but it does its work perfectly.

I think you posted in the wrong forum. Suggest to ask your question in the Ghost forum:

Looking at the version you quoted - version 15, I would conclude you are testing the retail Norton Ghost product and not Ghost Solution Suite, which is the corporate product that is supported here (and which uses different technology to the retail product).

There is a link to the Norton community in the sticky posting at the top of this forum, so I would suggest asking there.

However, it may not be possible to give you a solution to your problem without recommending an operating system rebuild. Installing an application can result in both files and registry keys getting overwritten, and the uninstall process does not rollback to the previous state, it just removes the files and registry keys that were previously installed. Since no-one can know precisely what files and registry settings your system had previously, these can never be restored.

Since you already use Ghost - do you have a recent Ghost image of your workstation that you could roll back to, after booting to DOS ? This is much more likely to get you back to a working condition than trying to tinker with what you have at the moment.

Yes, sorry. I did not find that forum. At least my question is visible there. Give me some time to wait for answers. After this I will mark the question as solved. Thanks for your response!

Thank you for your immediate response. You are right, I posted my question to the wrong forum. I will close it soon. I got an advice to "Norton_Removal_Tool.exe" and will try that first. In fact, I have not lost any data, but just two evenings of installation and update work.

The Norton_Removal_Tool.exe did in fact all cleaning up. Also registry entries were deleted, so that I could install the old Ghost version afterwards. Thanks for your help.
