    Hi,

i've question / problem while creating new PXE-Boot images.

In the Console I choose the Menu "Preboot Configurations", i've added two new entries "WinPE_X86" and "WinPE_X64".

The old was called WinPE_Final. I deleted the old and pushed "Recreate Preebot Environment".

After a Recreating, the new Imagefolder under SBS\Images was created. But if i boot into the PXE-Menu, i can choose the old WinPE_Final and the new boot options.

How can i remove the old entries?

After reset the PXE-Services (Stop and Start with dependencies) only the  Old WinPE_Final will be shown and the new created entries are missing.

    Any ideas?

     Thanks for your help.

After selecting the option to create a new preboot environment, it may take up to half an hour for Bootwiz.exe to run, and then another 20 minutes or so to create each preboot environment. In my limited experience, it is best to create only ONE preboot environment at a time, wait for it to be created, then create the next, etc.

You can force Bootwiz to run faster on the server by going to the SMA client on your PXE server, going to Settings, then Send a basic inventory and Update the configuration. Have Task Manager opened at the same time - you should see bootwiz.exe kick off. Once it's completed, you'll know your environments are created. It should also clean up those old entries.

I've just had a problem where it took bootwiz over three HOURS to create a new entry. It was hung up on something, but it eventually caught up. One thing you can try is to create one more final preboot entry, a temporary one you can delete later, just to make sure the bootwiz.exe process is kicking off.

Also, there's a bootwiz.log located at C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\Deployment\Task Handler\bootwiz on your server; that might have some more helpful information in there. Or... it may just confuse the heck out of you, hehe.

    Hi,

    i've still the same Problem.
yesterday in the evening, i deleted once more the whole preboot environment (from the Console and from the SBS\Image\ Folder) and rebooted the NS.

After that, in the PXE-Menu the WinPe_Final was shown?  I'm confused.
    OK, i've created a new PXE-Environment, once for x64 (WinPE_X64) and one for x86 (WinPE_X86).
In this Morning I booted my system into the PXE-Menu --> It shows 4 entries. WinPE_Final twice and WinPE_x64, WinPE_x86.
How can i delete / Remove the WinPE_Final entries??

    Thanks

If you look in the policy file on the agent, you'll probably find that image still listed and possibly as "create" or "update" or something, and thus it comes back.

If you deleted an entry and then pressed rebuild, you might have un-done the deletion.  I'll have to test that.  When you delete something, you should save it, then run delta before adding new stuff.  Sort of.  We have some weird over-writes that happen if you do things in the wrong order.

There's also an odd chance that the SBS file sending the menu isn't correct.

Question, you say they show up in the menu.  If you go under Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\deployment\task handler\SBS\Images, is the "deleted" menu folder still there?

The menu is NOT built from the actual folder structure, but rather from a list given to the system from the SMP.  If the SMP thinks the system has a menu, then the list will include said menu, even if the menu is non-existent!  So deleting it from the file system will not remove it from the menu.  If you look in the SBSStore folder, there you'll find the "images" files that are used to create the menu, and I suspect that there you'll also see an entry that indicates the "final" one is present.

Again, I think the "deletion" you did in the console either didn't take, or you only deleted it on the file system, or something of that nature.  If the NS thinks you have it - You display it.  Period.

    HI,

thanks for your answers. I couldn't have a look to the System at the Moment. The next time that i'm at the customer is
First I deleted the entries in the Menue and save the changes but i didn't run a delta update.
After this, i created the new entries and had a look the the Images Folder. After adding the two new Folders, I deleted the old one, but in the PXE-Menue at the clients all entries are shown.

You're right, in the image.sbs files are always teh "final" entrie.
For testing, i Moved all sbs files and restartet the _Symantec services at the NS. The SBS-Files are new created but still with the "final" entry.
