  • 1.  How do you manage notebooks without a LAN interface?

    Posted Nov 20, 2017 11:25 AM

    Hello

Some new Notebooks/Ultrabooks don't have a LAN interface.

We install all our device with WinPE and DeployAnywhere.

When we by new devices so we get from out distributor a list with all LAN MAC adresses and their serial numbers.

This list we can import as predefined computers.

On all predefined computers we now can run our deploy tasks.

But how should we manage all Ultrabooks? WinPe don't work with an WiFi Interface.

And when we use an USB-LAN Adapter we get everytime the same MAC-Adress and can't import the devices as predifined computers.

    Thanks

Sounds like you are using Ghost Solution Suite to perform imaging, correct? If so, what version?

If you are sharing a dongle to perform network based imaging, have you tried changing the primary keys on what determines a unique computer? From within the console, go to Tools \ Options \ Global \ Primary Lookup Keys

    We use Ghost 12.0.0 (build=10519).

Ok but what should we set as the primary key except the MAC-Adress?

How should the Preboot know whitch computer this is?

This version of Ghost 12? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_(software)#Norton_Ghost_12.0

If so, this post may need to be placed in the correct forum.

If you are talking about GSS / DS, there are queries to help you discover duplicates and, in turn, determine the best primary keys. For instance, we use serial number and UUID.
