  • 1.  How does SEP clients select which server to use ?

    Hi,

    I just installed a new SEPM 11 server in a branch office. Initial setup went well, I installed a new site and the databases have been replicated.

    But when I deploy the client from the new server to the local computers (with the "Find unmanaged computers" utility), they connect to the server at head office !

    What am I doing wrong ?

    BTW I do not need "Location awareness" since we have very few roaming users.

    You need to add the  new server under Management Servers list

    The Management Servers List allows me to set a server priority. I do not want that. This way all clients will connect to the first server in the list if it is available.

    I want to select myself which server the clients connect to.

    It can be done in this way too

    you can assign them....to clients so that they can talk to the server

    what you can do is create a new management server list first
    then assign it to  a group your new group
    now for this group.your new server is the primary,,,
    in the find unmanaged computers option select your new group u can change the group the clients report to, you need click on change option at the bottom to select the new group)

    Yes, this worked:

    • create a new management server list with my new server as priority one
    • assing the list to my new group
    • Replicate database
    • assing new clients to newly created group
