You need to clear the defs.

How to clear out definitions for a Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 client manually

You can also run the symhelp tool on it to see what it shows.

    Lastly, try a repair.

From practical experience, it's typically easier to just remove the client and reinstall it. YMMV.

A repair worked for me in SEP12 MR5 and also got rid of the large ccsvcHst****.dmp files in the Data\install\logs directory.

So, not to knock the other replies, but why not just execute a Live Update? That works perfectly well for me.

If defs are corrupt this doesn't 'always' fix the issue.

    Which leads to the question...

Is there a clear, Symantec KB article available that discusses this overall issue? I know from reading other posts, you were planning/working on some articles.

What I'm asking for, however, is a Symantec-generated article that basically details the troubleshooting steps necessary for this particular issue (corrupted defs). It's great that there is a bunch of different HOWTO's and TECH articles, but being presented with a "here's how you have to go about manually removing components of our software; just so that you can re-install it; oh, and don't forget to disable 'Tamper Protection' " series of different articles is less than encouraging. In fact, if I was making decisions regarding problems associated with a solution; it's associated support and support documentation; and the number of times my IT staff would be given suggestions like "re-install the client", I'd score Symantec as a write-off and look for another solution.

Of course, I'm not making those decisions...
