  • 1.  How to image a UEFI Win8 computer with stand alone USB

    Posted May 16, 2016 09:47 AM

I have Windows 8 computers running UEFI with safe boot.

I created a bootable, stand alone USB with the bootwiz to take backups with them.

With UEFI mode enabled the computers will not boot to the USB.

When enabling legacy mode I can boot to the USB.

If I take an image of one of these computers in legacy mode, will I be able to apply that image to another computer or back to the same computer?

Will I be able to do something like:

    1. Take image in legacy mode
    2. Enabled legacy mode on a Win 8 computer (that was using UEFI and safeboot).
    3. Apply the image to that computer.
    4. Reenable UEFI mode on that commputer

Will this work? How do I image UEFI safe boot computers with the bootable USB.

From what I recall, UEFI computer won't boot from USB sticks formated in NTFS.  So you'll need to format your USB drive to Fat32, make it bootable, and then copy the contents of the ghost.iso (if you made one) on to that drive.  That way you can boot from both UEFI and legacy bios machines.  As for the steps you have listed; more than likely you'll witness a nice blue screen crash after the you switch back to UEFI mode and boot up in step 4.

The bootwiz creates a fat32 formatted USB by default.

The computer will not boot to that USB with UEFI enabled.

Is it not possible to use a bootable gohst USB to image UEFI Win 8 computers? Can Acronis do this?

What version of Ghost are you using?
