    Hello All,

I'm running Altiris 7.1 and have rolled out a few laptops recently and have noticed they aren't showing any Software Updates needed even though Windows Updates shows a good amount as this image we are using is a few months old.  The laptop is checking in just fine and I can see all the agents installed just not sure how long it will take for a system to check in and start pulling updates.  Is there anything I can check to make sure there is not an issue?  Thanks for the help.

by default the Vunerablity Scan aka "Windows System Assessment Scan" runs every 4 hours on SMA clients with the Software Update Plug-in. the scan results as sent back up to the NS.

You can force a Vunerablity Scan by creating a task

Gotcha.  So with the laptop i'm using in my testing right now I see that the scan ran a few times as I had it on over night.  I ran it again by running the task and it gave back a Success code.  Still not seeing anything show up in the Software Updates tab though.  In the past i would notice my systems grab the updates pretty quick and I could for the install by clicking the Start Software Update Cycle.

Ensure that Patch Management targets the client in the Compliance Reports as outlined in KM: HOWTO21677, for if the updates are not listed Applicable & Vulnerable via these reports, they will not target.

Often the Windows System Assessment Scan runs without fail, but another process in the workflow is failing to perform. The client sends Patch Inventories to the SMP, and those are processed to the Database. It is by that Client's Patch Inventories being cross referenced to the Rule Logic provided by the PMImport, that the Intersect Filters are populated for IsApplicable=TRUE.

You may review the Patch Filter (Intersect Filter) targets by importing the SSE Report Pack from KM: HOWTO52986 - SSE Reports > Solutions > Patch Management > Patch Filters, and right-click the update in questions to 'Open in new window' and see what that update targets in the environment.

You may also review KM: HOWTO60750 if you feel there are some issues with Patch Inventories returning to the SMP.

    Hope this helps,

    Joshua
