I had actived the patch management module in the production eviroment. Now i found the windows of installation (dos windows) always jump out when system perform the patch updating, So users often call me what the system hapened.

Can i do the updating quietly?

Probably your users received a notification about patching or restart action. You can disable these actions by following. Open menu Settings > All settings > Agents > Software > Patch Management > Windows and find 'Default Software Update Plug-In Policy'. Select tab 'Notifications' and untick non required of these notifications.

You will need to disable all the notifications on client:

    1. Go to Settings -> Agents/Plug-ins -> Software -> Patch Management -> Windows -> Default Software Update Plug-in Policy -> Notification tab"

    2. Untick all the check boxes (or leave the desired notifications enabled/ticked)

    3. Update configuration on the clients

NOTE: If you'll have reboot option set to "Never" under "Settings -> Agents/Plug-ins -> Software -> Patch Management -> Windows -> Default Software Update Plug-in Policy -> Installation Schedules tab" and all the check boxes disabled in the Notifications tab, then reboot will be performed/notified only when computer will be manually restarted. To avoid this set up a schedule for reboot.

Could you please also attach a client policy xml file? The default location for it (on the client side) is - "%ProgramFiles%\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Client Policies\<NS Server hostname>.xml"

This was an known issue in the 6.x version, maybe this is still valid for the 7.1 version. Check this KB: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH13189

    Hello Mr. Peter,

Maybe your are right. The "starting windows" is nomal in each package. I will test it 2 days later, and I will give you a feedback asap.

But I found to change the setting is difficult, because you must change each package. I hope symantec will resole the problem in a shot time.

    THX.

Could you please provide update names of the problematic updates that you noticed?

Also, have you changed the command lines for any updates, or they are all set to default.

    Thanks.

Could you please provide more details about the OS you have noticed the problem with Groove 2007 update on? Because I could not reproduce this with Office 2007 Ent SP2 + Groove 2007 (ENU) on Win 2003 x86 SP2 (ENU).

    Hello,

Not only the Groove 2007 update, many starting windows of updates of MS is setted to "Normal", I don't know why is it?

"Normal" doesn't mean that command prompt will be shown for every update; there are silent install command line keys which should prevent any user interaction. I have tried the Groove update (which also has "Normal" by default) and no “dos windows” were shown during update execution. So there should be environment specific settings for such behavior. Also make sure that packages for the problematic updates contain "silent install" parameters for the update execution, usually "/quiet /qn", "/sAll" (depends on update).

    Hi,

You can find all the settings of command line is with "/quiet" or  "/q" or  "/qn", but why not all starting windows of packages not be "hidden"? you know we do a silent installation not a passive, silent means no UI no interactive!

As a professional IT, We cann't provide a service without any controlled. :), Symantec as a professional IT corporation, she must provide a standard production or service.

    Thanks!
