  • 1.  How to prevent downloads on mobile networks

    Hi,

Currently we are having some bandwidth usage issues on clients connected via mobile networks. These often have limited data they can use.

Is there any way we can prevent the agent from downloading software, patches etc while they are connected via a mobile network?

Have you considered already existing default Agent settings to control network throttle or even block downloading for managed Agents per appropriate time period (of course if you know ~time period when they are connected via mobile network)?

Just create separate or use default Targeted Agent Settings policy and set throttle or download blockout period

    Igor,

I don't know when the clients will be connected via mobile networks. I'm trying to put together a filter first which I can then use in the targeted agent settings you mentioned above.

    ddn123,

Many clients have targeted notebook devices with a filter using a SQL query, where the chassis type contains a few different values.

Otheriwse, if your hostname indicates desktop or laptop, you could use a SQL query in your filter. You would filter on the hostname in that scenario.

    Ryan,

I'm aware of the different chassis types although chassis type won't really help me much further here. If I have for example a laptop connected via a WIFI network I don't want it to block any downloads. Although if I connect my laptop via a 3G/4G/LTE stick or plug in a SIM card and connect through that I want all downloads to be blocked until I connect it back to a LAN/WIFI network.

Windows 10 for example seems to be able to detect if you are connected via a mobile network. I'm just wondering if I cant detect this aswel in the SMP platform.
