  • 1.  How to run SEPv11 in Safe Mode?

    Posted May 01, 2009 03:13 PM
     Hi All,

I need help running SEP 11v4 in Sate Mode. I go into Safe Mode and then go to Programs/SEP/SEP to start it and get an error after it asks me to start the service. I get:

"Failed to start the Symantec Management Client services. Error code returned: 0x8007012"

Do I need to launch some sub-program from the Symantec folder to get it to scan in Safe Mode or something? I have a machine that appears to have a bad virus on it and starting up in Normal Mode causes it to hang after a few minutes. Safe Mode runs fine but I want to scan the server in Safe Mode before attempting to trouble shoot it more.

    Thanks for the help.

When the message appears that asks you if you want to start the service choose: "No". The client will then open and you will be able to launch a scan.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks all for the help. I guess I could have tried that to begin with but just didn't think of it. I started the scanning process but so far its just saying "Starting" when doing a Full Scan and hasn't processed any files yet.

I'm also trying to currently find where I can download the latest Norton Security Scan and Clean definition files. Since this isn't an install, it should work pretty easily in Safe Mode. But since I can't hook it to the network right now, I can't use the automatic download to grab the latest definitions.

    thanks Cycletech

I was scanning my network today for Trojan.Dropper and found the same Service issue in a couple of machines.

    Really helped me. Thanks again.
