What's the correct way to image a computer that exists in CMS that had it's hard drive replaced?

The record exists in CMS so initial deployment doesn't work.  The agent doesn't exist on the new hard drive, so you can't drop an imaging job on it.

If you delete the record in CMS, it's still there somewhere and you don't get the initial deployment menu unless you restart PXE.

Surely I must be missing a better way than restarting PXE to make this simple?

    We are 7.1 SP2

Can't you assign a deployment job to it, then boot it into PXE?

will try that next time. I already deleted the entry from the console.. I just assumed it wouldn't ever pick up the job without the agent but maybe when it boots it'd be smart enough to see it?

Apply your imaging job as you normally would.  You are correct that Initial Deployment is not currently an option since it only responds to unknown computers.  (In DS 7.5 coming up, you will have an Initial Deployment menu for unknown computers and a Redeployment Menu for known computers.)

Once the job is assigned, you may need to reboot the computer manually, since the agent is not present to reboot it for you.  But as it boots up, it will receive a network boot offer and will load WinPE and run the tasks within the job.

If I'm mistaken and this fails, clone the job and remove the initial Reboot To task, so that it starts with the first task that occurs in WinPE.

Thanks mclemson.  It may be the reboot-to part that was messing it up for my technicians before.  I don't get many HD repairs in the building I'm in so haven't really had a need to test it much.

The 7.5 update can't come quickly enough (so annoying it was delayed another few months).

When I image, I can definitely delete the reboot to part of the job, but the techs out doing imaging won't and i really don't want ot maintain another set of jobs.  Will limp along until 7.5 I guess...
