  • 1.  Incorrect Function on all Jobs / Tasks

I have been working with HP RDP / Altiris for 5 years now. So, I have som experince with the product. However, I have deployed HP RDP 3.83 with Altiris 6.9 SP1. All the PXE level functions work but all my jobs are failing with incorrect function.

Error:    Incorrect Function      Status Code 1       module Win32

These same jobs work on previous versions.

The scripts run if ran locally on the server.

It is not a quotes or user account issue.

All the scripts are VB scripts.

    Deployment server is W2k3 x86 SP2.

    Target clients are W2k8 x64 SP1 and SP2.

If you retry the task often enough it will sometimes work.

This appears to be an issue with Altiris. I saw some posts on the internet about this but no resolutions were posted. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Just to try and Pinpoint the problem have you tried pushing the script using altiris to a x86 pc? Could the problem be with the x64 architecture and altiris?

Just helping with the troubleshooting here don't know much about this particular issue...

Was there ever any resolution to this?  I was told to recreate my jobs to fix this problem.  That worked for some but not for others and I only tested it on a few.  I have hundreds of jobs so I hate to think of having to enter everything in again.

I am seeing the same issue running image capture and deployment of win2k8 r2 X64 on my new server running rdp 6.01/6.9 sp3. I can capture images of win2k8r2, and deploy them. It then runs the post config task fine. I then get incorrect function on all tasks after that. I upgraded to 6.9sp3 by doing a fresh install to see if it was corrected with a newer kit. Even just Running configure computer fails with incorrect function. Any resolution found for this yet?

For what it's worth, I've got it working.  First of all, I had to update the DAgent on my base image.  I could not get things working by deploying my existing image with the old DAgent and then run the client update job.  I should have been able to do this but it did not work.    Then, after upgrading the DAgent on my image, I had to re-enter the passwords for my jobs (scripts) that were using credentials because apparently something got messed up with the passwords when we upgraded to 6.9 SP3.    Only after I did both of these steps did things start working fine for us.  I think my situation was just a strange confluence of events.  It shouldn't be this way but I'll have to make a note for the next upgrade when we go to 7.1 SP(X).

You've just reminded me where I saw that "Incorrect function" happening before, it was when I did an RDP upgrade and the option "Remove task passwords when exporting or copying jobs" got set. Was happening to all jobs that were copied etc, and it took me a while to realise what had happened.

After some more testing and days of troubleshooting...... It turns out there was a bogus static route being created in the database for the client servers. See article 24403 (which was supposed to be fixed in 6.8). I deleted the statric route from the client, pushed a new agent to the client, verified the route was gone and everything started working..... that was nasty....
