    the upgrade install to 6.0.5.218 failed and it won't restart I get

    Sorry for the "me too" message...but me too!

    I got this when I uninstalled 6.0.3 and reinstalled 6.0.5. LiveUpdate does not work. I really don't want to have to reinstall all the Symantec software on this box. I have Mail Security and Backup Exec.

    Sigh.

    I think it has to do with installing it through a Remote Desktop connection opposed to on the console. Symantec software (all of them) don't seem to like to be installed via RDP.

    Can i ask if you have stopped Antivirus running in the background during the installation?

    I did not. I have found most of those install routines that say "turn off your antivirus" are nonsense. I have never had an install fail in 15 years because of anti-virus. At least....any decent anti-virus.

    The reason behind this is i had a second error message that was logged by Symantec Antivirus that is as follows

    Turn it off and try again then? I'm not sure what you're looking for here.

    I get this error, too. It's a LiveUpdate component. SMSMSE will install fine, but LiveUpdate is broken. I also cannot register this DLL manually. I am trying to do so through RDP... so maybe the above poster was on to something. I have to try it at the console.

    I have run into this issue again. I was installing SIFMSE version 6.0.9.286 over version 6.0.8. The installation fails, but it actually seems to upgrade the software. LiveUpdate is broken until the server is rebooted. I am going to try this again on a different server.
