Install Ghost Standard Tools 3.2, can't uninstall older versions?

  • 1.  Install Ghost Standard Tools 3.2, can't uninstall older versions?

    Posted Apr 03, 2017 04:40 PM

Hi, just recently downloaded and attempted to install the new Standard Tools 3.2 version. During the process, however, I got an error message thrown at me:

There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

So I try the installation again and it brings me to a Repair/Remove wizard. So did 3.2 Standard Tools install properly? Maybe. No way to really know. So I went to my Programs and Features and there's actually three concurrent version of Ghost Standard Tools installed. I go to uninstall the older versions and then I get thrown the same error: There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

Did 3.2 install properly? Is there any way to verify the versions of standard tools I am running is in fact the newest version, and how can I get rid of the older versions of Standard Tools?

    Thanks.

Windows 10 System currently running Standard Tools v 3.01.1.8057

I have seen this issue before with the other installers where a registry setting or temp directory file is blocking installation.

I would remove the files located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Ghost".

Then clear the temp directory by typing %TEMP% into a folder address bar, deleting all contents from the root temp folder.

I am currently facing the same issue. Tried removing Standard Tools 3.1 which failed during uninstall (There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.) Managed to manually remove it following this procedure: https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH236884.html

However, the Standard Tools 3.2 failed during installation, with the same error message as during 3.1 uninstall. Ghost Boot Wizard won't start, so there's got to be some issue with the current install kit for 3.2.

GST 3.2 has been tested and the installer is working properly, these errors while problematic are environmental. I would suggest following what I mentioned above about clearing the temp directory and even removing Ghost registry keys using regedit. Another option is to install GST 3.2 on a different machine and see if the installer works correctly.

Also, after removing registry keys a reboot is required to update the registry.

Thanks for the response Brycen. I followed the instructions you posted earlier and deleted the contents of those two directories.

I ran the Standard Tools installer again and was again presented with a repair/remove wizard, I elected to just remove any trace of the installation. I then attempted the installation again and made it to the actual installation until I got thrown the same error message.

I'm assuming the next step you'd advise would be to delete the registry keys associated with Ghost?

    Thanks again.

edit: Please advise which registry entries I should delete. Where are the entries associated with Ghost located? Thanks.

edit 2: I deleted the keys that were outlined in the link a couple posts up, but I'm still having the same issue. Time to move on to tech support on the phone?

No longer able to use the BootWiz exe ... when I try to launch, I get "g_App.Initialize failed" error...

But I can still use the GhostCast server. I'm going to be contacting Symantec technical support via phone on Friday regarding this issue if nothing gives before then... will post a solution after that conversation if that happens.
