    Hello all-

I was hoping to get some help with an installation I'll be doing.  We are about to begin the process of transitioning from TrendMicro to SEP.  I've been doing some research into the steps I'll need to take to setup the architecture of SEP and I'm slightly confused by management servers.

In our current setup, we have 10 locations, each having a trendmicro server handling the local PCs there.  The TM servers receive updates from our main office and then push those updates down to their local machines.  This saves bandwidth in that clients dont have to hit the internet for updates, and also dont all have to report back to the main office.

I'd like to have SEP setup in a similar manner, however I'm unsure about how to do it.  I've installed the first management server in our main office using the embedded DB and attempted to install another in one of our branches.  I thought I would install the branch server as an additional management server in the same site, but I'm not given the option to join the current site.

Has anyone setup their organization in a similar way and if so, would you mind giving me some tips to help my installation go smoother?  It'd be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

you can have 10 independt servers and they can update clients without hitting internet
however you can all configure them to be loadbalancing failover or replication involved check these documents

http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/330744.htm its just on sql thats why u were not able to do so

    its only on sql

Failover and load balancing configurations are supported in Microsoft SQL Server installations only

Maybe I misunderstood Rafeeq's post, but failover and load balancing is supported and works just fine with the embedded database.  I've been using it for a year.   At the bottom of KB2008091703483748 it even says you can use the embedded database.

Happy to answer more questions if you have any.

Can you provide us some more details?
Approximately how many computers will be present in each location?
What is the bandwidth present and what is the current usage of it?
If you do not have not much clients you can go for GUP
For more information refer below doc
Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 Group Update Provider (GUP)

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you want manage the clients separately in each location you can install independent SEPM ( Symantec Endpoint Protection Manger)s,i.e.Install in every location as first site. .then install a live update server in your main office and point your SEPMs to download Updates from this.
For more info refer below article

If you want to manage the policies centrally and having more clients which is connected across a wan with low bandwidth do as follows

Additional note .Install and use embedded database only if your total no of clients are less than 5000 other wise use SQL as database..
