Workflow and ServiceDesk Community

Does anyone know if there are some tricks to installing a new Workflow and Process Server on Windows Server 2008 R2?

I tried to do this and had problems with the installed seeing the websites configured in IIS.  I got around this by going through the wizard on a Windows 2003 box answering all the questions and then bailing out just before the install saving the settings to an xml, which I then brought over to the Server 2008 (make a small change of server name in the XML). Now I can get past the website configuration, but at the end when it does its pre-requisite check it tells me it doesn't detect MS SQL Server Management Objects Collection, and it doesn't detect ASP.NET.

My SQL server is off box a SQL Server 2008 R2 running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 system.

I tried looking for a MS SQL Server Management Objects Collection from Microsoft, but I'm failing to find anything relevent for Server 2008 R2.  Anyone got any ideas or tips/tricks?

Do you have IIS 6 compatibility installed?  You will need that installed so you can select the web site in the drop down menu.

I don't think it will work for SQL 2008 R2.

It works.  I've installed that feature pack on Windows 2008.

Looks like I found a way around it...instead of downloading Workflow Server installer file from the portal, I went to Manage -> Workflows -> Workflow Enterprise Management, and then from here I was able to pick the server Modify it's Roles, and then add on the Workflow Server, Workflow Designer, Process Manager DB , and Process Manager Portal installed on that server.  How ever after this process was complete I saw that the this errored out saying:

"Error running installer: 'System Check' page is not valid: Microsoft SQL Server Management Objects Collection patch is not installed. Without this patch some database related capabilities will be inhibited."

You need the feature pack installed to get past that error.  Give it a try. 

Well, i got the message that service pack 1 isn't supported on the system check. .Isn't that great. I can understand not going backwards, but not supporting service packs that are installed??? Especially one that has been out for what , 8 months now?

That worked...after installing the Native Client for SQL Server 2005, Native Client for SQL Server 2008, SQL Server System CLR Types, SQL Server 2008 Management Objects, Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0, and the SQLServer2005_XMO_x64.msi

I don't know if I needed them all, but Native Client for SQL Server 2005, is required for SQLServer2005_XMO_x64.msi

and Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0 and SQL Server System CLR Types are required for SQL Server 2008 Management Objects

I install just two of them.  The native client and the XMO.

Microsoft shipped Windows Server 2008 R2/Windows 7 SP1 less than 3 weeks ago. There are significant changes in SP1 for this OS and many products have been impacted by this. For this reason, SP1 on Server 2008 R2 requires additional testing and is currently not supported. 

Unlike Windows Server 2003, R2 for 2008 is NOT the same OS as Server 2008. There's a big difference this time around.
