What devices are you looking to manage? We've been using the Altiris MDM functionality and it hasnt been a great experience. We only manage iOS devices and moved to Profile Manager and its been awesome so far.

    Hi Michael,

We are looking to manage windows cell phone & android phones.

Can anyone explain me the architecture & working for the same??

There is no document showing the architecture & number of servers required for mobile management.

Actually I am confused, whether we require different server for mobile management & SCEP server??

Can you explain me the simple diagram showing the same.

Also, I would like to know that "How my mobile phones from internet will be communicating with my NS or Mobile management server. And mobile agent will be communicating to Mobile server or NS??

    Kindly help ASAP.

    Hey James,

Thanks for the help, but I am actually looking for Symantec mobile management solution & admin guide related to it & its architecture.

    Kindly help.

    Thanks & Regards.

I honestly dont have any experience with using the Mobilty Management Suite to manage Windows devices, we're soely an iOS shop. In my enviroment, we had roughly 300 devices, all plugged into one Notification Server which had the Mobility Management Suite installed (we used our existing NS). For iOS devices they reported directly to our NS for inventory via an installed applciation, and for device commands they recievd the communication via Apples Push Notification Service. For this to work properly we did have to make our Notification Server externally accessible for devices to communciate properly off-campus.

Contact Matthew Giblin at Symantec...he was able to really help us through our implementation. If he isnt the right person anymore he should deff be able to put you in contact with someone who is.

    Krunal,

I think this is what you are looking for, the Implementation Guide.  We had SMM installed for some time.  This solution sits on top of the Symantec Management Platform (SMP) so you need the NS and you need a site server to act as the SMM server at a minimum.  We used a reverse proxy as a way for the devices to come in and communicate from the Internet to the SMM site server but you could put it in the DMZ as well.  Yes, you also need a SCEP server but we used an existing MS DC for this.  I think the guide will answer many of your questions.

They've been slow to update this product to match the SMP.  I don't think there is a SMM 7.5 yet, still on 7.2.  I get the impression the development effort for Symantec has shifted from SMM to their AppCenter product which they aquited from Nukona a few years back.  If you are starting fresh you may want to look at that instead.   Yes, SMM will integrate your managed phones / devices in the same CMDB as your other devices if you already have Altiris but we never got much value from that aspect of it since the people that managed our phones were different from those who managed the desktops anyway.

Oh, and no it is not installed as part of ITMS.  It is sold separatly and requites a separate license but you do install it via SIM.
