Endpoint Protection

I have two Vista SP1 machines that are experiencing the following issue:

Internet Explorer 7 browse to Google, Yahoo, any search engine and type. The typing is sluggish and when you are done typing a search term you hit the search button and it will lock up the browser or will take forever to execute and search. If I uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection MR4 1a then the problem goes away and search sites work normally. I am not trying to say SEP is the culprit because it might be finding something it doesn't like but nothing is in the logs. Antivirus, IP, FW (all OPen ports) Policies used. AV policy has File System, Truscan active. I have scanned for BHOs, trojans, safe mode virus scan, hijack this, spybot, cannot find anything abnormal. If you can help of suggest something please let me know.

What version of SEP are you running? Is this happening with wired or wireless clients?
Are you running with the Reverse DNS option?

You might try disabling each SEP feature one by one until the issue stops. Let us know the results, and we can then help troubleshoot this issue further.

Thank you for responding. We are running SEP 11.0.4014.26 on all clients. This is happening on two wired clients right now. I have no Reverse DNS option enabled. I am going through disabling each feature right now and seeing if it helps as well. I will let you all know Monday what I find. :)

Are you behind a proxy when accessing the internet?

Are you seeing the same slowdown on other browsers like Firefox or Chrome?

Have you installed the NTP(Network Threat Protection) feature?. If yes then try uninstalling it and let us know whether it boosted the performance of the browser.

We are behind a proxy that filters our webaccess and the problem is resolved if SEP 11 is uninstalled totally. Not a solution.... Once it is reinstalled the problem occurs again. Even though we are behind a proxy the intranet, which bypasses the proxy, is sluggish clicking and searching as well.

We have software policies in place that prohibit the use of installing any other browser besides IE so I can not say whether or not other browsers would work properly, sorry.

I have completed the steps to remove NTP and am waiting for the client to accept the changes and reboot. I will let you know if this fixes the issue.

Removing NTP does not fix issue. The issue is still occuring on two of our machines that have reported it as happening.

One thing that I will suggest is that you upgrade to RU5 (11.0.5002.333). There have been many performance related issues addressed since the build you are running was released.

Since this issue has been going on for so long has you considered opening a case on it? If you do please post the case number as I would be curious to know what the solution is.

Sorry we cannot upgrade to RU5. We have over thousands of  devices and it has been planned to roll out to Ru6 in the summer. This goes for IE 8 and Firefox as Firefox is not permitted at my corp. We have to stick with the standards policy.

RU6 is coming soon, so waiting for that may be your best option.
