  • 1.  Issue deploying or creating Windows 7 image

    Posted May 09, 2017 04:29 AM

I am unable to create or deploy an image using Altiris 6.9 on Windows server 2008 server.

I have installed ADK and configured WinPE in PXE Configuration Utility and  injected the drivers for HP 800 small form factor but when I try to create or deploy image I get the error "Unable to boot to windows automation."

    Please, could someone assist?

How far exactly does th HP800 get in the PXE boot process?

You need to make sure Network boot is first in the boot order in the BIOS and that the NIC drivers for the HP800 are in the PXE boot image.

    Hi Andy,

I injected the drivers in the PXE boot image but when I boot the machine up - it comes up with PXE E53 : No boot file received ??

When the PC PXE boots it sends out a DHCP broadcast with Option 60 set. How are you getting this broadcast to the PXE server? Is the PXE server service running on the PXE Server computer, is the windows firewall blocking the PXE broadcast on the PXE server?

I have added in the Option 60 and it still won't take a lease

Yes PXE server is running and windows firewall is turned off

On DS tab do I have DOS managed as default? I'm trying to use WinPE to deploy windows 7 image

The type of machine is a HP elitedesk 800 g1

    I added the driver HP 800 Win 78 64-bit - E1D - e1d62x64.inf and regenerated boot files.

Checked PXE server service is running

    Firewall is off

added PXE Client 60 to DHCP

Can you think of anything I may have missed?

When you say you "added PXE client 60 to DHCP" what exactly did you do?

How are the DHCP broadcast requests getting from your PXE client to the PXE server?

I manually added following these steps:

    • Right-click the server and select “Set predefined options”
    • Ensure Option Class is set to “DHCP Standard Options” and then click “Add”
    • Use the following options to add a new class:

Name           :        ClassID (User Class Option)

    Data type      :        String

    Code             :        60

Description     :        Added by Altiris PXE Services

    • Once created you must give the class the following value:

    Value            :        PXEClient

    • Ensure that this Scope option is applied to all scopes
    • Close the DHCP admin console

The PXE Server is a DHCP server - client is connected via a switch. I have a screenshot attached of the client in Altiris but each time I try to deploy an image or take an image comes up with errors shown. Everything looks good in DHCP so ima bit stuck !!!

    Any suggestions?

So you have one 2008 server with Altiris DS and PXE server and that's acting as the DHCP server for the network the PC is on but you are still gettting PXE-E53 errors on the client?

Have you checked the windows firewall is off on the server?

Fundamentally PXE-E53 means the PXE client is getting an IP address but not getting a response from the PXE server.
