Make and model: HP MT 6000 PRO
    NIC: Intel82567LM

    OS: Win XP Pro

    Ghost Version: 11.5.1.2266

    Issue:
    ======
    >I am using a customized WIN-PE template for image creation a& restoration, where the required drivers are already added and there is no issues with drivers.
    > Able to create & restore image with USB boot disk successfully, the image file is stored in the server.
    > When restored the same image using console, it stays in login screen and says "disconnected" in the console. Also unable to login to the machine. After entering the credentials, it says logging off and restarts the machine.
    > I tried disabling the "automatic restart on system failure", still the same
    > Again I have to restore the image using the Boot disk to bring it back to work.
    > When created the image using console, image creation finishes successfully, but after that it fails in next step and says "To target O/S, Client Timed out", It says "disconnected" in the console.
    > Now the source machine is not able to login back. It stays in login screen and after entering the credentials it logs off and restarts the machine.

    > I updated the 2269 patch and still the same issue.
    > There is a PCI card present in the machine for scanner which displayed an error message for drivers once in virtual partition.
    > I edited the pci.manifest file to skip the driver checking for that particular device. But still the same issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...! Thank you

Do you have multicasting and IGMP enabled on your network switches?

    Hello,

When client machine boot into pre-os, can you ping the server? what is the out put of ipconfig?

Was the Ghost Client installed on the original machine you cloned?

Yes, Ghost Client is installed in the client machine

Image restoration process works successfully from pre-os, so it should be getting valid replies from server. Moreover the image is in the server and it pushes the image to the client machine without any error messages.

The only issue is that I cannot login to the machine.

I dont think it is an issue with Multicast, because I am trying only with UNICAST, both for creation & restoration.

And other machines works perfectly when using unicast/multicast without any issues.

    Hello,

    | The only issue is that I cannot login to the machine.

Is it a syspreped image by any chance? If yes then by default built-in administrator is disabled. You suppose to create another admin account other than built-in administrator before you create sysprep image. Please check.

No, It is not a sysprep image.

Also its WinXp Pro, so I prefer ghostwalker instead of sysprep, but anyhow ghostwalker was not enabled...!

This looks like an issue with hard disk drivers on the target machine. Was the image created on exactly the same hardware as you are now deploying to?

Try setting the bios to legacy mode instead of SATA mode and see if that makes a difference.

    | The only issue is that I cannot login to the machine.

Does this mean you are able to boot the machine into the production operating system but not able to logon to?

Yeah the image is captured from the same machine and trying to restore it to the same machine.

While executing the above task using a boot disk and ghostcast server, it works fine for both creation and restoration

    But,

While executing the same task using the Ghost console, it creates the problem which was discussed above.

Do u have any idea about other hardware that may be conflicting with this task ???

Because I have seen an issue where a PCI wireless card conflicted with OS and caused the machine to reboot anonymously without producing any errors...

In this machine there is a PCI Card that communicates with a scanner. Infact the image of this machine is taken especially for this scanner.

Perhaps you should remove the hardware that is outside the normal machine specification and see if the imaging issues go away. Then at least you will know for sure whether this hardware is causing your problem (or not).

    Hi Mani,

In your post, you have mentioned the following :

"When created the image using console, image creation finishes successfully, but after that it fails in next step and says "To target O/S, Client Timed out", It says "disconnected" in the console."

Did you perform a right click on the error "To target O/S, Client Timed out" to get the error details. If yes, please let us know the same. If not, try to get this information at first and this would be help to proceed further. Try performing the other steps parallely .

    Hi Friend,

From what you explained in this thread, my understanding is that your client machine fails to communicate with the Ghost Server while its in XP environment. At the same time, the client machine communicates well with the server while on pre-os , the reason being that you have the latest NIC drivers added to your WINPE template. Your image fails and gets stuck at the login screen just because the client lost its connection with the Ghost Server and failed to receive the remaining information from the Ghost Console Task. To troubleshoot this issue, I would advice you to do the following ( again I just want to confirm that we have everything correct). Though you might have done few of them earlier, but lets confirm :

    1.  Apply patch 2269 to your Ghost Server 11.5.1.2266 and install the ghost client remotely to your reference machine( the image of which you need)

    2. Capture the image using ghost console

    3.  Remove external devices like printer, scanner etc  and try restoring using ghost console and see if it works

    4. If not, disable all other NICs ( other than the one we need) in the client machine and try restoration.

Please let me know how this works

    Regards,

    Dilip Sebastian
