  • 1.  Is it at all possible tp create a RU6a Package WITHOUT upgrading my SEPM server to 6a?

I am a bit apprehensive about bumping this server up again, particularly since an alternate release was released SO soon after an upgrade from Ru5 to Ru6, now we have RU6a. I do NOT want to move the server to this at this time, but I would like to be able to push the clients out using the pushdeployment wizer to get the 6a, package, is that at all possible to do at this time?

Yes, import the install package into the SEPM:

The other question would be what happens when the clients are on a higher version than the SEPM....I was always under the impression clients should either be on the same as or a lower version than the SEPM

If you weren't experiencing issues on RU6 then I don't think I would upgrade to RU6a

Some of my users have complained that Outlook has slowed down.

Unlike the SAV SSC, you can manage newer versions of SEP with an older verison of the SEPM.  The only caveat is that if the versions are too different, as in, the database schema has changed, you may see reporting errors as the SEP client is sending back data that the SEPM doesn't know how to handle.  Certainly RU6 to RU6a for the SEP client should not pose a problem.

Is the install media local to the SEPM server?  Are you local (or connected as console) to the SEPM server?  Copying the files over the network could certainly make it take longer.

    Sometimes the server is temperamental.
