Nice list. Its a shame Altiris documentation is so poor though!

You can always pay $2500-$3500 to take a class so that you can get some real product documentation...

They wouldn't be so devious as to make the documentation that bad that they sell more training courses....would they..... ;-)

If you need the simple information how to backup SMP including all components there is nothing shown in the user guide.

Where would you guys expect me to look for it?

Without connect i would be feeling very alone.

There are different things you can do to backup SMP and its components. It all depends a bit on what your environment looks like and what exactly it is that you want to back up.

The most important thing to back up is the CMDB. How to do this is described in the article Backing up the Configuration Management Database in the Altiris™ IT  Management Suite from Symantec™ Migration Guide version 7.0 to 7.1 SP2.

Another thing to backup are your reports. This is most easily done by using Data Connector to export the reports in a suitable format. Have a look at the article Configuring data transfer in the Symantec™ Management Platform 7.1 SP2 User Guide.

There are also ways to backup the whole NS. If you have a small environment you can run the NS on a virtual server using VMware and then use snapshots as backups. Another way to do a complete backup is to use a program like Backup Exec to backup everything on the Notification Server computer.

Wasnt sure if all console items are stored in CMDB or if i would have to export / import them in case of emergency.

Always the same problems with this product : You pay hundreds thousands euros for the solution and you have to pay thousands euros more to have a documentation helpful to work with  screenshots and examples. And at each remark to that point to the support, the response is that at the next product release more useful documentation will be provided and I am yet waiting since the 7.0 release
