  • 1.  Is It Possible To Increase RAM of SMG Appliance 8360?

    Posted Jun 28, 2017 11:54 AM

    Hi guys!

    We have a SMG Appliance 8360 (Dell PowerEdge R610) with 8 GB RAM but want to increase it, anyone knows if it's possible to do it and what is the maximum RAM that the server support?

    Additionally, does anyone know if this server supports the upgrade to 10.6.3-2?

    Greetings!

    Hi Orlando

    Short answer:  It's not possible to change the hardware on a OEM Appliance.

    Long answer:

    You need to validate the end date of your hardware warranty.

    Symantec recommends that you replace hardware older than five years with a new appliance.

    More information available at: https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO111548.html AND

    Also, be careful if you decide to modify the hardware , based on the following EULA SMG   this is the restriction that you have:

    8. HARDWARE  WARRANTY  SERVICE RESTRICTIONS/EXCLUSIONS

    The  warranties  contained  in  this Warranty Agreement  will  not apply to any Hardware which:

    (A) has been altered, supplemented, upgraded or modified in any way not authorized by Symantec;
    (B) has been repaired except by Symantec or its designee

    If this works for you please mark the post as solved.

    Best Regards

    Once the appliance is outside the warranty you can do whatever you need to with the appliance. Acccording to a quick Google search, that appliance can take up to 192Gb of RAM. We don't do anything special to the hardware, it is still a Dell server that can be modified just like any other.
