  • 1.  Is it possible to migrate Oracle 11g DB (linux) to Oracle11g DB (Windows)

    Posted Dec 01, 2014 04:16 AM

    Hi Friends,

Kindly please help me with the below issue?

We need to migrate Oracle11g (Linux) to ORacle 11g (Windows), Is it possible? if yes can you please provide with the important steps or documents.

Actually the process we did for migration

    1. Installed Oracle 11g and Vontu 11.5 on Linux system (Single tier), created 2 policies and 250 events.
    2. Installed Oracle 11g and Vontu 11.5 on Windows system (Single tier), Now we need to take backup of those files and configurations
    3. As mentioned in Vontu guide, i copied 14 files from opt/oracle/oraprotect/protect to c:\oracle\oraprotect\prtect folder, after that we faced certain issues
    4. like, Vontu monitor controller, TNSListner services is stopping automatically, when we tried to open the webpage,
We are getting https 404 page error.

Could you please help me in resolving the issue?

    Thanks, Deva

If you have access to Oracle support you should check Migration Of An Oracle Database Across OS Platforms  (Doc ID 733205.1).

As an aside becuase you only have 250 incidents and two policies in the source system you could just export them out (as web archive and policy export respectively) and import the policies into the Windows system.

    Hi John,

Thanks for the response and update.

I am not having access to that document, Kindly share me the document.

Also, First I am doing in test environment which has two policies and 250 incidents. But production enevironment has 50 policies, lakhs of incidents, 'n' number of endpoint machines. Please let me know is it best practise to do it through expport nad import?

Also, Could you please share any link which explains export an dimporting policies and configuration files? As i am unable to find the option to export and import policies and incidents in web console. Can you help me with the steps.

    Thanks, Deva

As for the Oracle article we are not able to release that per our licence agreement with Oracle. The short summary of it is to use RMAN to move the DB. A similar article is located at

    http://remidian.com/2012/07/transporting-an-oracle-database-to-another-os-platform-the-fastest-way/

This is outside of the scope of what Symantec supports directly; our typical cusotmer doing this scenario has dedicated Oracle support.
