can you put an upgraded client install package into the SEPM for an alternate language client and will it update OK, or do you have to have alternate language clients in a separate group updated by a separate client upgrade package, etc?  (What do you think?.)

    I dont think so,
when you install SEPM in english it does understand english
all the package you assign will be of the same language.
when upgrading groups with package how do u select a lang specific?
you ment to say that you will add a new lang package inside english sepm?

    1. Download CD1 for the requested language . To obtain the  release, read the document Obtaining an upgrade or update for Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x or Symantec Network Access Control 11.x

    2. Navigate to Admin - Install Packages on the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Console and choose the task "Add Client Install Package"

    3. Specify a name for this package and browse the original installation media to \SEPM\PACKAGES
Choose SAV32.info or SAV64.info. Click OK to create the package.

    4. Once the creation has been successful completed it is possible to export this package to the clients..

No its not possible, your sepm source is of english origin you dont have any option to select chieise language when exporting the package.

even if you try to add a chinese package, with MU5 it will tell you the version is current and you cannot add it again, give it a try, you will get the same error message :)

It is possible only if we are adding the pacakge of a newwe version

For example SEPM in USA  with English with MR4  can have Chinses language package added  of MR4MP2 or RU5

We can only add packge of a newwer version in SEPM

You can install the english SEP on Chinease OS without problem
or else while downloading SEPM from fileconnect.symantec.com
    select the language as chinease.

Unilingual support for Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager
    -----------------------------------------------------------
The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager server supports a unilingual user interface. This means that a specific language operating system can only install and run that same language on the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Console. The end user must configure the user locale to be the same as the operating system language when running the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Console.

    - A specific language Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager server only supports the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Console that is in English language or in the same specific language as the server.

    - The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager server and the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Console must both be configured to use a user locale that is the same as the operating system language.
