  • 1.  Licenses and AD Import Questions

    Posted May 19, 2017 10:41 AM

We've recently ran over our license count and i am trying to clean up the stale entries.  I have already set the manager to delete clients that have not connected for 14 days.  I have a few questions.

How does SEPm count for laptops that are offline for over a month?

When AD syncs, all the old computer objects are also imported.  Do those stale computer objects count as a license?

Is there a way to run a report on all the machines that actually take up 1 license?

    Thank you

Clients drop out after 14 days so they shouldn't count against the license count if they haven't connected in over a month.

Run the Computer Status report under the Monitors >> Logs page

Set a custom timeframe for within 14 days to show all clients.

Thanks for your prompt response.  So based on answer, I assume stale AD objects are NOT counted towards the license count even if they show up in the SepM OU group?

I believe any client that shows in SEPM consumes a license. If the machine is valid in AD than it should remain. If it is not than it needs to be deleted out of AD.

After doing the search for the last 14 days, i can confirm that AD syncs on stale objects do NOT count towards the license count eventhough they show up in the SEPm console.  I was not able to find any of stale AD objects in the computer status report.

    Thanks for your help Brian.
