Deployment Solution

I recently started using Altiris deployment solution 6.9 SP5 to remote install Linux/Windows operating system. Kindly bare with me if the below queries are trivial, I've not yet taken any knowledge transition.

I need to preboot the new servers with LinuxPE image using DHCP to automate OS install. I'm able to preboot the new servers with the default x86 LinuxPE image created by Altiris DS.

Please clarify:

-  Do HP and IBM provide their own custom LinuxPE image preinstalled/preconfigured with Altiris agent and other drivers supported by their hardware?

- If so where can I download the image on HP or IBM or Symantec website.

- Does Altiris DS 6.9 and 7.1 support both LinuxPE x86 and x64 preboot image?

- Can I use LinuxPE x86 image to install both x86 and x64 operating systems?

- Is it possible to install LinuxPE x86 image to install both Windows x86 and x64 OS?

To get HP and IBM custom PE images I think you'll have to download and install their custom deployment kits onto test servers. HP's is called the Rapid Deployment Pack and IBM is the ServerGuide Scripting Toolkit.

You can use either 32 or 64 bit Linux PE to download images of either 32 or 64 OSs but not to run scripted Windows OS installs, these need to be started from WinPE.

I'll try downloading HP Rapid Deployment Pack and IBM ServerGuide Scripting toolkit to evaluate the install.

So to install say Windows 64 bit OS after booting from Linux PE (32 or 64) image, we need to again boot from WinPE to start Windows OS install?

What about installing RHEL 6.x OS from Linux PE 32 or 64 image?

Sachin -- Only x86 Linux preboot images are supported.

- Can I use LinuxPE x86 image to install both x86 and x64 operating systems?

Sachin -- Ideally yes. But only x86 is supported.
