    Posted Feb 04, 2010 05:41 AM

    Hi,

I have a problem with Symantec Endpoint Protection RU5 (version 11.0.5002.333) and Windows 7 Professional 64-bit edition.

After installing SEP on Workstations as unmanaged client, "Proactive Threat Protection" is disabled and LiveUpdate fails to start.
I have manually update "Antivirus and Antispyware Protection" with the new virus definition but, as far as I know, it is not possible to manually update "Proactive Threat Protection".
When trying to run the update I always get the following error message: "Error Updating Protection Definitions. LiveUpdate start failed with error code -536805375".

I both tried to turn off Windows UAC and to repair software installation errors using Symantec install. But this issue was not fixed.
    Any idea?

    Thanks and regards,
    Marco

correct, just go to add/ remove programs,
    remove PTP
    just keep AV / AS
    remove liveupdate
    delete liveupdate folders
    install liveupdate
    do a repair of sep.
    run the liveupdate again.

Thank you for the prompt replies. And many thanks to Rafeeq: your solution works.

However I have some more questions:
    1. Are you sure that Proactive Threat Protection will not work with 64 bit OS? On my Windows Vista x64 system I have Proactive Threat Protection enabled and it seems working fine. I just have problems with Windows 7;
    2. Is it planned an update of Proactive Threat Protection for Windows 7 64 bit OS?

    Marcog,

Yes it will not work on Server OS no matter 64 bit or 32 bit
thats why its working on your Vista though its 64bit
    ..
PTP will not work on server os, will remain OFF :)

    Hello Marcog,

May be i'm wrong here, I re-read this document. On my test machine.
    The PTP is not working
    as per the document
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2007091713544248
"The same status is true on all of your 64-bit and Server Operating Systems"
meaning it will not work on any 64 bit machiens, including server / non-server.

Are you sure that its working fine on vista 64 bit, If yes then we would request symantec to update the document, the behaviour might have changed after MU5

I see that the document was last modified on

Well before MU5, we need your valuable input on this.

    @AravindKM
Thanks for your valuable feedback. Made me to think :)

    Hello,

I confirm that PTP (Symantec Endpoint Protection version: 11.0.3001.2224) is working fine on all my Windows Vista 64-bit OS (Italian version, service pack 2) workstations and now, following your suggestion, PTP (Symantec Endpoint Protection version: 11.0.5002.333) is working fine also on my Windows 7 64-bit OS (Italian version) workstation.
    It seems all ok.

    Best,
    Marco

Thanks to you for your help!

Just for completeness, this is the correct solution that worked fine on my Windows 7 64-bit OS (Italian version) with Symantec Endpoint Protection (version 11.0.5002.333):

    1. go to add/ remove programs,
    2. remove PTP
    3. just keep AV / AS
    4. remove liveupdate
    5. delete liveupdate folders
    6. install liveupdate
    7. do a repair of sep.
    8. run the liveupdate again
    9. install PTP
    10. run the liveupdate again

    Best,
    Marco

    Just an update.

I have installed Symantec Endpoint Protection (version 11.0.5002.333) on my notebook on a fresh Windows 7 64-bit OS (Italian version).
SEP and PTP are working fine, without any issue.

    Cheers,
    Marco
